Educational Philosophy

Albert Einstein said, “A society’s competitive advantage will come not from how well its schools teach the multiplication and periodic tables, but from how well they stimulate imagination and creativity.”  In that same vein, Austrian philosopher and priest Ivan Illich commented, “Most learning is not the result of instruction. It is rather the result of unhampered participation in a meaningful setting.  Most people learn by being ‘with it’…”

As a teacher, I try to encourage my students to “think outside the box.”  I want them to be engaged in the classroom.  I want them to take what they learn from me and start asking themselves “what if” questions. I want them to use their imaginations and try to answer those questions.  I want them to know that they have the ability to change the world for the better. And, then, I want them to go out and do just that–change our world for the better.
